Auras by the lake
Sunlight glittered through the ripples as the ducks searched the bottom for food and the gulls paddled lazily off shore. Two people approached the edge of the lake and finding a dry log sat down. It was soon obvious that the two were more interested in each other than in ducks and when he put his arm around her she moved close so that his fingers could touch her cheek, caress her neck and trace little circles around her earlobes. She shuddered slightly at his touch and gazed dreamily out towards the sparkling lake.

They were wrapped tightly in their own existence and the sound of children playing in the trees behind was not even heard. If the children had paused and looked with the elemental insight that children possess they would have seen a greenish aura about the woman merging with the blue aura of the man. The filmy auras would appear to be dancing together, merging and splitting apart like miniature northern lights dancing through a clear summer night above dark pine trees.
He leaned over and kissed her cheek gently and she turned her head to meet his lips with hers. The kiss was long and tender allowing the sweet joy of love to flow from one to the other. He moved his hands along her body and found the soft mounds of her breasts warm and firm under her clothes. She snuggled closer giving his fingers the unencumbered access to her needs. Her yellow aura was taking on a distinct red tinge as her basic vitality become more urgent and her red danced as his blue lightened to a paler shade showing his contentment and joy at having her so near and vulnerable.

Soon the colours were a mixture of flashing reds and glowing yellows against a background of vibrant green and blue. As they kissed once again he asked her if she loved him as he loved her. They had often told each other that they loved each other but never in a moment of intimacy like this and she paused and tightened inwardly at the commitment she was being asked to make. It is one thing to be loving friends but another to be lovers and each life has many complexities that cannot easily accommodate a new love in the bright sunshine of the real world. Life’s experiences have taught that passionate love doesn’t last a long time but a loving commitment is intended to last forever. If only, she thought, that could be so and a cloud of doubt shadowed the sunshine over her lake. She murmured something inaudible but her aura slowly changed back to green eventually melting into his blue as reality cooled their fevers.
They talked for a few moments longer and then stood and holding hands slowly walked back to the road. Their auras enveloped them and one of the watching children wondered why the strange couple seemed to be walking in a cloud of shimmering turquoise light.
